95% of New Applications Are Developed in Containers.
Is Your Organization Ready?

Containers use lightweight Operating System (OS) virtualization technology, allowing containerized applications and dependent components to run in a resource-isolated process. These applications and components can be packaged into images for reuse, ensuring that containerized applications run consistently no matter where they're deployed. Container technology also delivers faster application deployment, patching, scaling, and upgrades, accelerating application development and testing while shortening production cycles.

  • Lower Costs

Compared with traditional Virtual Machines (VMs), the size of container images stays at the MB level, requiring fewer resources to run containers.
  • Superior Portability

Images ensure the consistency of environments where containers run. In other words, containerized applications can be easily migrated to different OSs and hardware platforms, on or off the cloud.
  • High Efficiency

Container images can be started and stopped within seconds, enabling faster application deployment, patching, scaling, and upgrades.
  • Development and Test Acceleration

Containers allow organizations to transform applications into microservice-based architectures to accelerate application launch and shorten the release period.

Challenges to Container Deployment

Transmission Optimization

The Need for Agile Deployment for Stateful Containers

Today, 78%* of enterprises have either deployed, or plan to deploy stateful applications in containers. Stateful containers rely on persistent storage, but traditional storage deployment is not agile enough for containerized environments.

Network-Wide Collaboration

The Importance of High Availability in Container Platforms

Compared with virtualization platforms, container platforms lack native high availability capabilities to ensure zero interruption and disaster recovery for key business operations, making it difficult for enterprises to microservitize key business.

The Need for High Data Security

Generally speaking, container uptake in the container ecosystem is low given very real security concerns. The security of containers, and especially the data inside them, has therefore become one of the major challenges facing enterprises.

Industrial Design

Unified Resource Management

Storage resources are shared and freely used by multiple development teams. Container storage must provide a globally unified resource management dashboard to eliminate resource abuse and ensure sufficient resources for mission-critical services.

Huawei Solution

Huawei provides industry-leading container storage solutions that combine its storage, which features optimal performance, easy O&M and sharing, and solid reliability, with the diverse products of its many container partners. Currently, Huawei storage interconnects with many industry mainstream container management platforms, including Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, Rancher, Cloud Container Engine (CCE) agile edition, FusionCompute, FusionStage, DaoCloud, and Alauda to help customers quickly deploy and run stable containers.

Easy-to-Use with Fast Deployment

K8s interconnects with a Container Storage Interface (CSI) plug-in specially developed by Huawei, to manage Huawei storage and efficiently distribute storage resources on demand, making batch deployment of mass containerized applications 30% faster.

Automatic Disaster Recovery (DR) for Containerized Applications

The Container Disaster Recovery(CDR) is a Huawei container DR management plug-in that offers application-level data protection services within a K8s cluster. It can automatically implement DR protection in the following three scenarios:

If a server fails, CDR automatically removes it and migrates stateful PODs to healthy nodes.

If a storage system fails, the Container Storage Interface (CSI) and CDR switch PODs to a local active-active system within seconds with a recovery point objective (RPO) of 0.

If the data center fails, CDR ensures application consistency by starting the container cluster in the DR data center with an RPO of 15 seconds.

Cost-Effective Backup and Fast Recovery

The CDR service offers application-level backup, cloning, and recovery by leveraging snapshot and clone functions of the storage, resulting in reduced TCO and no need for additional backup software. Recovery runs in the background and provides immediate access to data after the operation is complete.

Optimal Performance, Easy O&M, and High Data Security

Huawei OceanStor Dorado storage delivers industry-leading performance when storing tens of billions of small files. That makes it a smart choice for persistent container storage scenarios, providing a high performance, easy-to-maintain, and secure container foundation for stateful applications.

Optimal Performance: Huawei OceanStor Dorado supports business success, offering 30% higher performance for both Network-Attached Storage (NAS) small files and Input/Outputs (I/Os), compared to other vendors. It also delivers 640,000 Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) for Storage Area Network (SAN) databases, twice that of other vendors. And it offers Non-Volatile Memory express over Fabric Plus (NoF+) technology that reduces latency to just 0.05 ms.

Easy O&M: SmartMatrix full-mesh architecture and gateway-free active-active deployment for SAN and NAS ensure up to seven-nines — 99.99999% — storage reliability, simplifying O&M and supporting more service innovation.

High Data Security: Industry-leading SAN/NAS ransomware protection technology protects data from ransomware attacks.
