FTTH Conference 2024: Huawei lays out industry-leading optical network solutions to help ISPs reduce costs and improve efficiency

2024.04.02

[Berlin, Germany, 21 March] Huawei has shared its application practices of the fifth-generation fixed network (F5G) at this week’s FTTH Conference 2024 in Berlin. The company also unveiled a number of new innovative products and solutions to cater for many essential requirements in the "Building Green, Ultra-Broadband, and Intelligent Internet" theme.

To address the Internet Service Providers (ISPs)/Managed Service Providers (MSPs) scenarios, Huawei proposed the target network that supports "10G to room, 50G to home, 100G/200G to CO (central office), and 400G/800G to DC". In addition, leveraging technologies such as Wi-Fi 7, FTTx, 50G PON, Alps-WDM, and 400G/800G, Huawei launched the premium all-optical network solution for ISPs to help customers build networks with deterministic experience at lower costs.

Gu Yunbo, President of Huawei's Enterprise Optical Business Domain, said, “Before the deployment of FTTH network by ISP, we advise making an overall target network planning". He went on to explain that Huawei’s premium all-optical network solution for ISPs can guarantee experience with optimal cost.

Wu Jie, Director, European Enterprise ISP Account Department, Huawei commented: "Huawei is dedicated to promoting sustainable industry development with innovative solutions and intelligent technologies. Our focus is to help unlock the value of intelligent transformation."

Transport network upgrades for higher quality and bandwidth

With home broadband networks and enterprise private lines upgrading to 10-Gigabit ultra-broadband access, metropolitan optical transport networks (OTNs) need to be deployed to central offices (COs) and upgraded to a bandwidth of 100 Gbps, whereas backbone networks require 400 Gbps to ensure non-blocking ultra-broadband transport through improved capacity.

Huawei Alps-WDM and 400G solutions can reduce network construction costs and increase backbone bandwidth. OXC greatly simplifies deployment and reduces power consumption and O&M costs. The ASON solution achieves 99.9999% network reliability and ensures zero service interruption.

Ubiquitous all-optical 10-Gigabit access

Digital applications for homes are thriving, and bandwidth experience is extending from living rooms to bedrooms, studies and even kitchens, enabling users to enjoy click-and-start video applications. This increasingly common scenario needs an improved end-to-end service experience assurance and all-optical connections for Gigabit access in each room. To address these requirements, ISPs need to upgrade to 10-Gigabit-capable passive optical network (10G PON), which enables them to deliver Gigabit services through 10-Gigabit home networks with seamless coverage for the entire house.

The next-generation FTTO 2.0 solution for B2B Service

For ISPs transforming to MSPs, Huawei launched the next-generation FTTO 2.0 solution for campus scenarios in the Wi-Fi 7 era, and the 50G POL solution for ultimate performance, meeting various campus network requirements of industry customers. Based on XGS-PON Pro and Wi-Fi 7 technologies, FTTO 2.0 is upgraded in terms of performance and experience. This solution features ultra-broadband, simplicity, green credentials and high quality, meeting industry customers' requirements for building next-generation campus networks.

New DC 908 pro supports

For data center interconnect (DCI) scenarios, Huawei introduced the next-generation DCI platform, the Huawei OptiXtrans DC908 Pro, that offers higher bandwidth, reliability, and intelligence:

• Higher bandwidth: The DC908 Pro supports single-wavelength 1.2 Tbit/s over distances of up to 240 km, which is three times longer than the industry average.

• Higher reliability: The DC908 Pro features the groundbreaking Storage-Optical Connection Coordination (SOCC) solution, achieving 99.999% reliability and ensuring service security and continuity.

• Higher intelligence: With support for IT-based simplified deployment, NMS-free deployment, and one-click service provisioning, the DC908 Pro eliminates the need for specialized skills.

Looking ahead, Huawei will continue working with global ISP customers and partners to innovate and integrate intelligent technologies into the industry, leading the way towards a more sustainable, efficient, and innovative path toward intelligent transformation.
