As one of the largest public Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in Australia, International Cloud Integrators & Telecommunications Alliance (ICITA) offers cloud computing application and server lease services to over 100 large enterprises and data centers spanning the globe.


In the year 2013, the revenue from global public cloud services reached US$47.4 billion. In cloud data centers, the expansion of server ports results in an increase in the data center network scale. Private cloud services of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are transitioning to virtualized public cloud services. Additionally, CSPs continuously innovate in cloud services and optimize service operations and management models. These days, both the strength and the variety of network threats have been increasing geometrically.   • Scalability: CSPs need to dynamically allocate network resources and scale up compute resources for processing peak traffic.

Huawei proposed its innovative CloudFabric Solution (CloudFabric), which delivers the following benefits:

  • High Elasticity: Huawei offers customers a leading network architecture that features large capacity, high quality, and long-term stability. Huawei’s CloudFabric uses Huawei CloudEngine (CE) series data center switches to build a super large fabric, which can provide access for over 13,000 x 10 GE servers or over 50,000 x GE servers and support data center server evolution across four generations from GE, 10 GE, 40 GE, and ultimately 100 GE.
  • High Quality: Huawei’s CloudFabric is capable of improving the enterprise data center network reliability in three dimensions: devices, networks, and cross-DC interconnections. At the device level, five hardware systems (SFUs, MPUs, CMUs, power supply modules, and fan modules) of the Huawei CE12800 adopt a full Hot Standby (HSB) design. In addition, three buses (monitoring, management, and data) of the CE12800 use a full redundancy design, ensuring ultra-high reliability of core nodes. At the network level, Huawei’s CloudFabric leverages device stacking technologies such as Cluster Switch System (CSS) and Intelligent Stacking (iStack), achieving network device redundancy. Huawei’s CloudFabric also implements Equal-Cost Multi-Path Routing (ECMP) for multiple links over the Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links (TRILL) network or the IP network, ensuring load balancing and redundancy backup of link resources. In terms of DCI, Huawei’s CloudFabric enables Layer 2 interconnections among multiple data centers using leading tunneling technologies such as Ethernet Virtual Network (EVN) and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). In this manner, services can be seamlessly switched across multiple data centers, which ensures high service continuity even if a disaster occurs.
  • High Security: Taking advantage of its over twenty years of hardware Research and Development (R&D) experience, Huawei has developed a complete line of security products that deliver the industry’s best-in-class performance and functionality.

Huawei’s CloudFabric fully embraces ICITA requirements for the new data center network. In 2013, Huawei and ICITA established a strategic alliance, in which Huawei provided a one-stop-shop solution and excellent services for ICITA. The solution encompasses CE12800 series data center core switches, OceanStor Dorado2100 series full Solid-State Disk (SSD) storage systems, OceanStor S5600T series mid-range and high-end storage systems, E6000 series mid-range and high-end servers, and USG6000 series mid-range firewalls. Damien Stephens, ICITA CEO, said that this project marks the beginning of the strategic cooperation between ICITA and Huawei.


Covering network, security, and storage products and solutions, as well as servers, the ICITA data center project has showcased Huawei’s overall data center solution development capability. Deeply and fully analyzing ICITA’s service characteristics and requirements for the future cloud data center network, Huawei has put forth a top notch CloudFabric Solution which offers the following leading benefits:

  • Huawei’s CloudFabric deploys Huawei’s CE12808 high-performance data center switch as the data center network core, delivering Layer 2 interconnections with core switches over the live data center network and a remote active-active DC solution design, as well as meeting the customer’s requirements for cross-regional service disaster recovery.
  • ICITA’s data centers have bben provided with multiple Wide Area Network (WAN) egress and ingress points, which use Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to broadcast routes. External users can now access the data centers through the nearest ingress, which can be found in the BGP broadcast.
  • Each of ICITA’s two data centers has been deployed with a firewall to isolate external traffic, and security policies are synchronized between the two data centers in real time. In addition, high-end firewalls and backup storage systems guarantee highly secure, reliable IT services.
  • Huawei’s CloudFabric builds a converged, elastic resource pool consisting of E6000 series blade servers and high-end storage systems. The resource pool supports routine enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Structured Query Language (SQL), and desktop cloud.
  • Huawei’s CloudFabric uses Dorado series high-end storage systems and SSD card combinations, which are dedicated for desktop cloud. Huawei’s CloudFabric also provides hierarchical storage functions, helping tenants to implement differentiated Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
