Improving Access to Healthcare

Telemedicine — harnessing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to improve access to healthcare services — has enormous possibilities. However, the field faces a number of challenges: from poor video codec performance hindering remote diagnostics; to complicated medical imaging device interfaces that cannot connect to teleconsultation devices.

Furthermore, separation of the consultation platform and the videoconferencing system makes unified scheduling and management impossible. A lack of videoconferencing endpoints or network connections has also inevitably slowed the evolution and development of telemedicine as a viable solution.

However, with two decades of video conferencing R&D experience, Huawei has created a complete, End-to-End (E2E) video telemedicine solution, integrating remote medical video conferencing, specialized medical devices, enterprise Software Development Kit (eSDK) interfaces, and medical service platforms.

Providing 1080p HD Dynamic Dual-Stream, In-Person Experiences

Traditional telemedicine systems provide non-real-time, low-resolution video images, resulting in a poor in-person experience. Huawei uses industry-leading, 1080p 30 fps dual-stream dynamic image technology, delivering fast, crisp video experiences. The technology transmits HD-quality, panoramic video streams of medical data and surgery details. Indeed, Huawei’s Multi-Channel HD Telemedicine solution brings telemedicine into the ultra-HD era.

Multi-Channel Medical Data Collection and Presentation

Huawei’s medical data collection system connects to medical devices using standard interfaces: composite and component video, Video Graphics Array (VGA), Digital Visual Interface-Integrated (DVI-I), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Serial Digital Interface (SDI), and High-Definition-SDI (HD-SDI).

The system supports a maximum of 19 channels for electronic medical records, examination reports, images, and patients’ vital signs. The system also simultaneously displays 4-channel signals to support expert diagnoses.

Seamless Interconnection with Existing Systems

Huawei provides open, standard interfaces for third parties. This ensures Huawei can work with third party vendors in the medical information industry, to provide a comprehensive and integrated medical platform.

Powerful Network Adaptability and Packet Loss Concealment

It combines patented packet loss concealment technology, and the latest H.264 codec technology, to improve the video compression ratio and deliver more vivid, clearer, smoother video — all at the same bandwidth.

Error-concealment technology enables true network adaptability: even with packet loss rates of up to 5%, videos display properly. When the loss rate reaches 10%, the video may degrade slightly, but quality levels remain acceptable. When the packet loss rate reaches 20%, voice conferencing can continue without video.

Complete Medical Data Security

Supports H.235, and Transport Layer Security (TLS) signaling encryption, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption, and Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) media stream encryption.

Signaling and media stream encryption cover the entire network, from endpoint to endpoint, from endpoint to other systems, and in multi-point consultation scenarios. This effectively ensures teleconsultation security and prevents patient and medical data leaks.

High Reliability

It features nine backup mechanisms for improved continuity and stability. The hierarchical reliability design ensures 24/7 technical support, enabling timely treatment for critically ill patients.

End-to-End Delivery

Huawei provides one-stop delivery, including consultation center deployment, expert consultation rooms, consulting rooms and training rooms, and service platforms.
